Research at the Technology, Policy and Management Department at TU Delft concentrates on the integration of the system perspective and the stakeholder perspective on complex problem solving. The program's mission is to contribute to the resolution of these types of complex, multi-actor decision and management problems by developing and testing innovative concepts and theories, design guidelines and supporting methodologies and tools. The program does so by achieving a creative synthesis of insights from the field of public policy and administration on the one hand, and the fields of applied operations research and systems analysis and design on the other. For example, simulation gaming ("Serious Gaming") is often used to evaluate process designs and/or supporting methodologies in settings that emulate reality as closely as possible. Projects at TU Delft include airport expansion planning, rail traffic planning, port planning and many others.
